Frequently Asked Questions

Auberge Transition is a communal living environment. What does that mean?

Residents have their own private bedroom, which can be locked. However, common areas such as bathrooms, the kitchen, and living spaces are shared with other residents.

Can residents bring their pets to the shelter?

Pets are not permitted during a stay at the shelter. However, we can refer you to pet care or boarding services and help you explore available options.

Do residents have to pay for services and/or shelter?

No. Our services are free of charge. Auberge Transition provides groceries for residents on a weekly basis and ensures that dietary needs and restrictions are respected. Residents who receive any form of income are responsible for covering the cost of personal items such as hygiene products, medications, and transportation.

Does Auberge Transition provide childcare services?

Unfortunately, no. However, the youth counsellor may occasionally provide respite support to mothers based on individual needs.

How long can a resident stay at the shelter?

The maximum length of stay is three months. All stays are voluntary, and residents may leave whenever they choose. Our counsellors support residents in finding housing and planning for life after their stay.

Can residents continue working and/or attending school during their stay?

Yes. In some situations, it may be necessary to establish a safety plan. When this is the case, residents work with their primary counsellor to develop a plan that meets their needs.

What is most important to bring to the shelter?

We strongly encourage residents to bring all identification documents, such as passports, permanent resident cards, health insurance cards, and driver's licences, as well as important documents including marriage certificates, leases, birth certificates for themselves and their children, and immigration documents. Because storage space at the shelter is limited, residents are asked to bring no more than two or three suitcases.

Is Auberge Transition wheelchair accessible?

Unfortunately, no.

Can family members or friends visit a resident at the shelter?

To protect the confidentiality of our location and ensure the safety of residents, their children, and staff members, family members and friends are not informed of the shelter's address and cannot meet residents within our secure perimeter.
